A young company (scholarship.ch) shows students the way to the appropriate foundation. A comprehensive database helps.

Mr. Jauch, why does it need a professional, fee-based scholarship-advisory?

For individuals, it is very difficult to get an overview of the various donors. In our database we have collected 5000 Sponsors, and there emerge constantly new ones. In Switzerland alone there are around 20 000 foundations and we find out which ones offer donations to the education sector. Our task is to find the right box of money for each individual.

With so many donors one would have to think that there is something for everyone. How does your rate of success look like?

Since we are a very young company, we have not yet made any accurate evaluation. I assume that a quarter to a half of all individuals find financial support if they consult with us.

I supposed it would be more.
Are people who remain empty-handed, not frustrated that the fee paid was for nothing?

Only sporadically. Because most of them are still happy, as they are safe to not have left a chance unchecked. Many are not so financially to the limit that their studies would depend on it. Some of them come from middle class families with a certain amount of wealth, which may not be present as liquidity because it often lies in residential property. But we do not know that in the outset, since our applicants do not have to give any information about their financial situation.

How much do companies get involved, since they should be interested that there are enough talented people being educated in their respective fields?

There are several companies already acting as donors. But there is still much potential left. We are in contact with many companies and try to motivate them.

Companies are likely to primarily support disciplines with good job opportunities. Is this a disadvantage for all Phil 1-students?

No, because it is here where the foundations step in. There are many foundations that engage in the arts and culture sector and thus help out. A further option are loans. They are easier to obtain because they are repaid. They are usually given free of interest. A new approach we pursue is with individuals who act as donors for people in education. The motivation to such donors comes from a social rather than a financial perspective.
